Supporting grassroots music & emerging artists
Founded in 2009, Undiscovered Music Project was born out of a common goal of a small group of promoters who all shared a passion for supporting live music. Each year as part of the project we organise a countywide music contest, which is split into two categories Solo Acts & Bands. However this is more than just a contest, it's an opportunity to showcase yourselves to industry professionals, network with other musicians and make contact with promoters.
The Format
Solo Acts:
Round One: A selection panel made up of industry experts will review each entry.
Round Two: Those chosen to progress further will be invited to perform live at a heat.
Round Three: Solo Acts Grand Final. Winners of heats plus two wild cards (chosen by the judges will go through to the Solo's Act Grand Final
Bands:
Round One: A selection panel made up of industry experts will review each entry.
Round Two: Live Heats. Those chosen to progress further will be invited to perform live at a heat
Round Three: Town Finals. Winners of the heats will be invited to one of four town finals in Colchester, Southend, Chelmsford & Basildon.
Round Four: Bands Grand Final. Winners of the town finals plus one wild card (chosen by the judges) will go through to the Bands Grand Final at Colchester Arts Centre
Judging
Firstly artists will be judged on Professionalism, one part being communication (so this starts the moment you send in a entry) but carries through to the live heats where we view attitude, co-operation & punctuality. At each heat & final there will be three independent judges that will each score the artists over three further categories, Performance, Originality & Songwriting. At the live heats & final the audience also get to vote for their top two artists with the one with most votes awarded 3 pts, 2nd place 2pts and 3rd place 1 point. These are added to scores from the four categories
WHO CAN APPLY?
Entry is FREE and the contest is open to artists of any age, any genre and all types (i.e solo, duo or band). Artists must have at least one musician based in Essex and have at least one original song.
